Albert Heijn store personnel app

Saving time through smart integration

Albert Heijn owns over a thousand stores in the Netherlands. In all those stores their employees work with a set of old systems that run on big handhelds. This was acceptable in the eighties, but not in the digital age. Therefore we merged all the old systems into one handy app: WINK.

Meet WINK, the store personnel app

Albert Heijn owns over a 1000 stores in the Netherlands. The personnel of these stores works with nine outdated systems. Our challenge was to merge all these systems into a single app. That's the story behind WINK in a nutshell.

Less time for processes = more time for the customers Less time for processes = more time for the customers

Less time for processes = more time for the customers

The biggest advantage that WINK has to offer is time. With the new app the store personnel can spend considerable less time on administration. This has both a logical and beneficial effect: employees are more often on the shop floor. And that’s the place where they can help customers the most.

The whole store in your pocket

Does this bread contain nuts? Is this biscuit gluten free? In the pre Wink era, employees resorted to the consumer app when they received such questions from customers. Now they just use WINK.

Track revenue in real time

Real-time insight into store sales. WINK shows store managers in advance when something is about to go wrong and enables them to intervene immediately. An order of 600 cans of tomato soup, that should have been just 6: this can be changed in a heartbeat.

A leading brand

A leading brand

Albert Heijn has been around for over 130 years. In this stretch of time the supermarket has become the undisputed market leader. With a market share of 35%, 1000 stores and 80.000 store employees Albert Heijn can rightfully call itself the number one supermarket in the Netherlands.

Picking the brains of the personnel

Picking the brains of the personnel

Before we started designing, we asked the store personnel of Albert Heijn what their daily tasks look like. Together we determined what the app should be able to do. This not only made the app a better product, it also caused everyone to feel involved right from the start.

User experience of consumer quality

User experience of consumer quality

WINK is one of the few business apps that offer the same user experience as a consumer app. As an organization it’s quite special to provide this to your employees.

A fine piece of employer branding

When your work becomes better, faster and more fun, it gives you more satisfaction. This is exactly what WINK achieved. That’s why the app also has a positive effect on the employer branding of Albert Heijn.

It’s a hit!

It’s a hit!

Employees of Albert Heijn are very satisfied with the app. In fact, they 'fight' over who can use it first. Currently WINK is being deployed throughout the Netherlands. Every two weeks another 40 stores start using it. At the end of September, all employees in the 1008 stores in the Netherlands will work with WINK.

The pictures are really convenient! Finding stuff has become much easier.
