Fairphone is a smartphone company unlike any other. Known for their modular, repairable phones and commitment to fair materials and ethical production, Fairphone has long been a pioneer in making the electronics industry more sustainable. With the launch of the Fairphone (Gen. 6), they introduced something new: a physical switch on the side of the phone, designed not to add more functionality, but to bring less. The idea? Help people step away from digital distractions and reconnect with what really matters.

The challenge
Fairphone asked us to define and design the experience behind this switch. Together, we developed Fairphone Moments: a calm, minimalist mode that turns your phone into a space for focus, presence, and intentional use.
In close collaboration with Fairphone, we shaped the entire experience behind Fairphone Moments, from early concepting to detailed UX flows, user validation and development handoff. Visual design was created by our colleagues from Resoluut, with soft gradients and a calm aesthetic that fit the Fairphone brand and amplify the soothing experience of Moments.

What's next
Moments launched worldwide in June 2025 as a core feature of the Fairphone (Gen. 6). With a solid foundation now in place, it is ready to grow. Future updates can expand the feature with new functionality, more customisation options, and deeper support for intentional smartphone use.
